I’m two weeks into my 14 month vacation and I have already visited:
2. Halifax, Nova Scotia
3. Charlotte, North Carolina
4. Ottawa, Canada
5. Fredericton, New Brunswick
6. Kouchibouguac National Park, New Brunswick
And I have completed the following on my bucket list:
1. Ride in a helicopter (over Ottawa on Canada Day)
2. Spend Canada Day in the Capitol (Ottawa, Canada)
3. Watch the Canada Day fireworks from the roof top of the Fairmont Chateau Laurier (once in a life time experience)
4. See the Nation’s Snow Birds fly above the capitol on Canada Day
I can’t wait to see what the next 13.5 months will bring!
Next up will be Cape Breton, Nova Scotia for hiking and the Dominican Republic for my first ever girls trip with my mom.
If you could take a year off from your job, where would you go?
Wow! It sounds like you are having an amazing time.

Ha, I’m from Guyana and live in Charlotte NC……is the Turks and Caicos on your radar?? It’s absolutely beautiful…
If I could take a month off I would go to Africa and England…..I love the English accent and I have always wanted to go on a safari 🙂

Hey JC, what a small world! You are from Guyana and live in Charlotte, both places I loved to visit! I would LOVE to visit Turks and Caicos…I will try to get there on my year off. I am planning a trip to South Africa in November!
Do you travel much?

yep….I travel a lot on my own, and visited a lot of countries while in the Military. I have friends that live in a lot of the islands….so visiting them is a double bonus 🙂
Can’t get my husband excited about a safari though 😦
I love experiencing the different cultures….what’s your favorite part of travelling?

Yes, traveling is awesome. I do a lot of solo traveling myself as well!
My favorite part about traveling is trying new things in each destination that I visit. It makes traveling very exciting.
Where will be the next place you will be visiting?

I am heading to the Dominican Republic on Saturday for a girls trip with my mom! I backpacked the island in 2008 and loved it so much I am taking her there!

Cool cool…not a big fan of solo travelling though…what safety precautions do you put in place??

Thanks for the comment. This is a very good question (possibly one that I could write an entire blog post about). Just to mention a few:
– I always let my family and friends know where I am heading and for how long in each destination/city. I e-mail them each time I move on to a new location
– I always send my flight information to family members.
-I do my research before I go
-I never travel at night
-I make reservations ahead of time
-I learn a bit of the language
etc…
Maybe I should write a blog post about this!

Great sound precautions!! I do believe worthy of a blog post, especially since you actively practice them. This may be enlightening to someone who would love to travel (but who can’t find a travelling buddy) and is intimidated about travelling alone.
Safe travels my friend 🙂
