Last week I had the most incredible time in paradise with my mom in the Dominican Republic. It was amazing to see the Dominican through my mom’s eyes as a first time visitor to the country. I fell in love with Dominicana in 2008 when I backpacked the entire island with my friend. It’s one of my favorite backpacking adventures. My trip back to Samana was just as memorable because I got to share it with my mom. My mom and I enjoyed taking a water taxi to Bacardi Island (formally known as Cayo Levantado), the perfect destination for relaxing on the beach- our favorite place. Cayo Levantado is definitely one of the best beaches in the Samana area.
Sounds like a lovely trip! Please share with us more about this beautiful place!
It was an incredible trip! I will be sure to share more. I’ve posted two other posts about that trip a few days ago! Be sure to take a look! 🙂
Have you been to the DR?
I want to take my daughter here!
You should, the next time she visits DR. Beautiful isn’t it? Have you been?
That looks like an amazingly beautiful beach!
Thank you! What’s your favorite beach?
Of those in my area, possibly this one. Further afield, I do like Dunas de Corralejo
AMAZING! I want to visit both of those places! I am a lover of the sea, and those 2 places are places where I want to be! Do you go there often?
You’d love the beaches in Fuerteventura then. I’ve been to the island three times and very much liked being there. Although the beaches on Anglesey are about half an hour or so away from me, I don’t go all that often – we’ve been having a spell of nice weather here though so have been making the most it recently.
They all sound like heaven! I will have to add them to my bucket list! I’d go to the beach every day if I could.
Unfortunately she’s only here for 10 days this trip, so we have other obligations. But, once she is finished moving here in a few months then I will definitely be taking her to Cayo L. And, jejeje, a whole lot of other places.
I bet you have lots of adventures planned for her! What’s her favorite part of DR?
So far, Las Terrenas, but the non- busy part by the river. It’s pristine!
It’s really beautiful there!
Have you been to any other Caribbean islands?
No I haven’t, and now lack the physical abilities
Well, being in the DR is the perfect place to be!
Yup. Though, remember, this can be a very dangerous place. So when you come back, before you go gallivanting, do your research and learn some Spanish. You are an easy target if you don’t speak the language.
Yes, exactly. You got it right. I do have basic/intermediate Spanish (enough to get me along). I never had a problem during the 1.5 months I’ve spent in DR, but I can understand where you are coming from.
It can be really rough here. Lets continue this on FB 🙂
Sounds good chica loca!
How fun that you got to travel somewhere so beautiful with your mom! I went to NYC with my mom recently. That was our first time traveling together as adults and we had a great time.
It is pretty incredible to travel with your mom (as an adult) and really enjoy the trip together while trying new things along the way. When were you in NYC? I love it there! Did your mom like it?
I completely agree. We were there for a few days in early July. We got to see the 4th of July fireworks, see Annie on Broadway and catch up with some old friends. We had a great time!
It sounds like the perfect getaway! Are you planning another trip with your mom anytime soon?
No time soon. I live in South Korea so I only get to see her a few times a year (if I’m lucky!).
Oh yeah, I know what that is like! How is South Korea? I’ve not yet made it to Asia.
I’m loving it. So much to see and do. Not a fan of the winters, but the rest of the year is pretty awesome!
Awesome! I am not a fan of winters either! I am excited to be able to escape the Canadian winters this year since I have a year off to travel! How do you cope with the winters? Do you do any winter sports?
I don’t cope with them very well! lol Do you have any tips?!
I don’t do any winter sports, but there’s skiing not too far from where I live. Just not game enough to try it.
I don’t like the winter either, but I try to do fun things in the winter to help me get through it! Snowshoeing, skiing, skating, and sledding are easy ways to pass the time on the fluffy snow. I’ve never tried ice fishing and I would really like to! How do you get through it?
