Soaring Through the Sawgrass in the Everglades

The Everglades

The EvergladesThe Everglades National Park is everything you would imagine: miles of saw grass as far as the eyes can see, rivers running in every direction, and alligators swimming alongside airboats full of camera trigger happy visitors. My visit to the Everglades with my cousin was a success! We saw us some gators! Like the others, I too had my cameras (yes two cameras) locked and loaded and ready to “shoot” myself some gators! Not only did we see one gator, but four and a nest full of babies too.

The Everglades

The EvergladesThe Everglades was everything I expected it to be and I had the opportunity to experience it with family. My cousin and I have been trying to plan a trip together over the last 6 months and it finally worked out for us to meet up in FLORIDA. We had an amazing day zooming across the water of the glades. It was my first time riding in an airboat and it too was as fast (if not faster) than I expected it to be. With my hair blowing in the wind and the spray from the water refreshing my warm skin I couldn’t help but smile as I enjoyed the ride. As we whipped across the river, the speed of the boat made the long saw grass dance. With every quick  sharp turn, we left waves rippling behind us. When we would slow down I would know it is because wildlife was a snapshot away. Beyond gators, we saw multiple native birds and plant species known to the Everglades. I didn’t want the tour to end.

The Everglades

After the airboat ride in the Everglades, Gator Park puts on a educational show explaining more about alligators and the other animals found in Florida. From kissing toads to wrestling alligators Gator Park Airboat Rides does it all. Roaming around the grounds were two beautifully coloured peacocks. Their purple and turquoise tail feathers would rustle while showing off for guests. Available at the park was a variety of alligator foods: alligator burger, alligator steak, fried alligator and chips, alligator jerky, and beyond. I passed on eating alligator this time. I was happy just to see them in their natural habitat, I had no desire to eat them too.

Visiting the Everglades was the perfect escape from Miami Beach for a morning. The cool air in the park was a relief after a few hot days under the sun. The Everglades allowed me the opportunity to see more of what Florida has to offer. As a state, Florida has some amazing landscapes and views. I can’t wait to return.

  2. Hey Jessica! Sounds like an awesome trip! I really need to go visit my fam in Miami soon. Alligator burger and alligator steak. Hmmm… interesting. I’ve tried an alligator appetizer once here at a jazz bar…once is enough.:) Happy travels! xo Donna

  3. Ooooh, I love this. Florida is my home and it is nice to see others’ adventures here. I’m not exactly one to talk because in my 22 years of living here, I have only JUST gone like two weeks ago for our wedding anniversary, haha! It is a beautiful sight though, for sure.

      • I was just as much of a tourist down there, too! Haha. I went my entire life without even stepping foot further than West Palm Beach. It was beautiful though.

I live in the Tampa Bay area close to one of the best beaches in our state. If you ever get a chance, stop by Clearwater Beach! I’m very excited to see how your wedding goes! The turquoise aspects are going to be gorgeous! I’m planning a Christmas vow renewal since we got married December 27th. It was 2010 so we’re coming up on our fifth wedding anniversary but we never had a ceremony with all our friends and family. That’s what we’re doing this year. It is on my bucket list, haha. “Have a wedding ceremony”. I’m excited.

      • I’d love to visit West Palm Beach. What’s that like? Do you have a link where I could check out some images on your blog? Ohhhh Tampa sounds like a fun place to explore. I have never been there either. Lucky girl. I’ll let you know if ever I am heading that way. Ohhhhhh so you are doing some wedding-like planning yourself missy. Sounds like so much fun. I can’t wait to see how my wedding turns out too.

      • West Palm Beach is beautiful. We definitely have stronger waves over there! I don’t remember much of it considering I was probably ten years old and my parents have all the photos of that one. Tampa is a blast. There is just so much to do. Please do and I’ll be sure to point you in the right direction when you come around! Orlando and Cocoa Beach are probably some of my favorite central Florida places to be. And yes! I am somewhat. I’m not doing EVERYTHING in a traditional wedding, but I do want to be able to experience like any girl should! So, I am going to find a dress and so on. I can’t wait to see the beautiful photos that come of your wedding and soon-to-be journey of a lifetime.
