Hotel Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba is considered one of the top rated five star hotels in Cayo Santa Maria. After a week long getaway at Hotel Cayo Santa Maria I can see why its considered a luxurious destination for vacationers. As a backpacker and down to earth traveler it’s not often that I get the opportunity to stay a resort. Typically I much prefer to travel my way through a country from city to city and hostel to hostel. However, there are times when I crave a holiday just like anyone else. After 5 months of traveling my way through Canada, U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, I knew it was time for a beach getaway to relax, recoup, rejuvenate, and get ready for my next long haul backpacking adventure through Europe!
After spending 6 weeks away from a turquoise beach (Australia was the last place I visited a turquoise paradise) I knew it was time to return to one. After flying over 24 hours from Oceania to Canada I needed a turquoise beach closer to home. It wasn’t long after returning home that I was off again–yet to a much closer destination. The Caribbean is the perfect destination only a few hours of flying time away from my home. Cuba it is! My first visit to Cuba in 2007 landed me in Veradero; I longed to return to Cuba, but I wanted to see a new part of the country. While planning the vacation I told my boyfriend one thing: I don’t care what hotel we stay at or what destination, I just want a beautiful turquoise beach. He found me just that in Cayo Santa Maria.
Hotel Cayo Santa Maria was a dream come true! The hotel sits on one of the most perfect turquoise beaches I have ever seen in the Caribbean. This says a lot because my passion is visiting turquoise beaches. I’ve explored countless beaches throughout the Caribbean in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas, and Tobago. Playa Cayo Santa Maria is the best of the best. Any beach lovers dream come true and especially mine because its the most beautiful turquoise I have ever seen. Mind you the hotel property and hotel itself was fabulous, but I didn’t pay much attention to it because I spent every waking hour at the beach absorbing my time in the sea under the hot Caribbean sun.
My beach sun and sand vacation at Hotel Cayo Santa Maria gave me everything I needed after my recent backpacking and hostelling adventure. No more staying at different hostels every night or moving cities every other day. I got to stay in the same place and in the same room (with my own bathroom) for an entire week. That’s pure luxury! With the hotel’s spectacular beach, endless pools, ice cream parlour, lobby coffee bar, and every kind of food imaginable, I enjoyed my 8 days in paradise with the love of my life.

Thank you so much. When did you visit Cayo Santa Maria and which hotel did you stay at? I loved it and hope to visit again soon. The beach is worth the trip alone.

Thank you so much John. I’m glad my Caribbean post reminded you of St. Thomas. St. Thomas is a place I’d love to visit as I’d love to visit every Caribbean country (If I had a turquoise goal).
