Growing up I always went camping with my family. My mom told me that my first camping experience was when I was only a few weeks old. Even through my teen years and early adulthood I enjoyed camping with friends and family and did so as often as I could. When I refer to camping I am talking about tenting in a wooded lot, while cooking on the fire. There is nothing like the fresh outdoors and smores on the camp fire. The last time I was camping was when I went white water rafting with my boyfriend in Maine 11 months ago. There are very few things that will stop me from tenting–not even the intense heat, rain, wind, cold, or bugs will slow me down.
The mosquitoes and black flies in northern Ontario are the worst I have ever seen in any of the 17 countries I have visited in my lifetime. At this time, I cannot imagine camping with the fury of sworms that live in the north (I don’t know how the locals do it). During the handful of outdoor expeditions I have been on in the last month with Tourism Timmins, I was almost eaten alive by the pesky buggers while exploring the north. Those experiences left me never wishing to sleep in these woods. However, the next best thing to camping is getting close to nature while sleeping in a luxury chalet!
Cedar Meadows Resort & Spa was the perfect destination for a chalet staycation with my boyfriend. We had the luxury of sleeping in the great outdoors, yet were protected from the buzzing locals. Although the resort is located minutes from downtown Timmins, it feels like miles from civilization. We were able to go into town to get Italian take-out and drive back out to our getaway. While looking out on the back deck of our chalet, we were able to see a river lined by Ever Greens and white swans swimming by. This is nature at its best without us having to battle mosquitoes all day long.
Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa’s identical self contained chalets feel like home; they have all the amenities of home, yet it is still exciting to stay there because of their cottage ambience. Oh how I dream of owning a cottage someday (on a beach of course). If only my dream cottage could look anything like Cedar Meadows bright chalets. They are the perfect size with everything I would ever want including a wrap around balcony, cathedral ceilings, stained glass windows, a loft bedroom, and wood beam accents (among other luxuries). Staying at Cedar Meadows Resort and Spa had me dreaming a new dream.
