Even though it may seem like a stereotype, I was told that I couldn’t go to the Netherlands without watching a clog making demonstration at one of the few local clog factories in the country and tasting different varieties of traditional Dutch cheese. Would you agree?
The first thing I did when I arrived in the Netherlands was do just that! After doing both of the recommended activities (I take suggestions very seriously and literally), I couldn’t agree more. I like to experience activities that are iconic to each region that I visit, and this couldn’t have been more authentic.
Clogs and cheese are a part of Dutch culture and so it was my duty to take part in the local traditions. I can tell you for sure that it was some of the best cheese I have ever tried! Not sure I’ll ever get used to walking around in clogs.
Great post! Love the pix!
Thanks so much! I am having so much fun writing about my experiences!
Cool Jessica 🙂 Ive also done it the first time I went to NL, very sweet 😀
I think you have to! Right? It is a must!
Yessss!! Just like beer in Germany 😀
Always something to do in each destination.
Oh yes!! When are you planning to visit Brazil? 😀
I’ve been to Northern Brazil, but never in the south nor RIO! I would love to visit RIO RIO!
Jessica, Turquoise Compass
Ohhh really? Which city have you been in Brazil?
You definitely need to visit Rio and all the beaches around: Buzios, Angra dos Reis and so on 😀
Boa Vista, in the North–close to the border of Brazil. I went for a day trip when I was working in Guyana.
Jessica, Turquoise Compass
How cool!!! I didnt know you worked in the Guyana! I’ve never been to Boa Vista, but I have some cousins living there… sounds a very different city from the rest of Brazil!
I was teaching indigenous teachers in a remote region in Guyana how to teach English in their classrooms. I was there for about a month. I wrote an article about it. Did you see it? https://turquoisecompass.com/2013/06/26/a-country-like-no-other/
Yes Boa Vista isn’t the “Brazil” people think about it, but for me it was authentic Brazil! I really should write an article on it!
Jessica, Turquoise Compass
Woww, I didnt know that 😀 I will take a look at the article!
And yes, you should write about Boa Vista… I would love to read it 😀
I love the Netherlands! Great pic! xx
Now after I have seen it I love it too! I want to go back with my boyfriend!
you should spend a week in clogs and see how it goes as a travel experiment 😉 😛
That would be an interesting blog log…
I want some clogs! I think of Shirley Temple in Heidi.
Yeah you do don’t you!? Wearing clogs full time would be an interesting experience. Do you want a pair to wear? I guess they can be useful gardening shoes.
Not to wear so much, but more for decoration. Hehe.
Yeah, I think that’s the general idea! They are beautiful decorations.
