I bet a few of you have been wondering if I “trashed” my wedding dress in the Dominican Republic after my destination wedding…OF COURSE I DID! I debated back and forth for a while, but I decided to get the most out of the dress of my dreams. My husband knew that if I didn’t do a ‘trash the dress’ session I would regret it…he was right. It is a dress I will only get to wear once so why not wear it for every occasion, even if it means in the pool! I was determined to wear my wedding dress the entire day of my wedding and I did. No second party dress was allowed at my wedding.
Our moonlit evening photo shoot at the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana turned out better than I could have ever imagined. When I first bought my wedding dress, my youngest brother described me as Disney’s Little Mermaid. My Sincerity Bridal dress floated atop the glistening turquoise water making me feel more and more like the Little Mermaid. How ironic that my tropical turquoise island wedding in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic allowed me to be transformed into a real life princess–a princess of turquoise waters. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I wish I could live and breath under water. It is as if I was born to be a creature of the deep blue turquoise sea. My wedding week at the Majestic Colonial was my opportunity to live my dream and be a true turquoise bride–celebrating my big day in the water!
I couldn’t be more pleased! The pictures turned out phenomenal, thanks to Alyssa Martin Photography. I don’t regret for a second that I “trashed” my dress making lifelong memories with my husband. Would you do it?

What an amazing idea, Jessica! Is it really trash now?

Thanks so much! No, not at all! They call it “trash the dress” photo shoot, but my dress dried over night and is in perfect condition. The water from the pool actually cleaned the dress after all our walking in the sand.

Amazing pics Jess 😍 trashing sounds like another memorable event apart from the actual wedding. Is your dress trash now ? 😅 it’s really pretty

Thank you so much. It was a very memorable experience for my husband and I (and fun too). They call it trash the dress because anything can happen, but my dress actually was cleaner after the pool session then before we went in! The dress was dry overnight and was back in perfect condition. I’m very lucky that the dress was not trashed!

So great photos Jessica and after so much water you were able to bring a new washed beautiful dress home again 😉

Exactly! It came out cleaner after the pool then before we went in! It helped to clean the sand at the bottom of my dress.

Thank you so much! I made the earrings specifically for my wedding day. The turquoise touches were the perfect addition to my turquoise inspired beach wedding. The photos say a lot about how we live our lives…so much love and adventure is in store for us! Thanks for commenting. Stay in touch. I look forward to following your holistic journey.

I’ve not been able to sell my dress (fortunately, I didn’t spend out the wazoo like my friends but still). Was a size 0 – one bride-to-be who loved it just couldn’t squeeze into it. I’ve been meaning to cut it up to yield satin pillow cases or something, LOL.

I’m debating on whether or not I should sell my dress. I’m wondering if I should wear it one more time. Ohhhhhh making something creative with the dress is an amazing idea! I will think about that myself too.

Yeah, if you’re going to sell, get one last mileage out of it – unless it means you’ll have to dryclean it again ($). But given how creative you are, yes…you just may love turning it into keepsakes. =)
