Custom Onesie for a Custom Baby

Jessica Palmquist Frozen Embryo Baby

When I was pregnant with my first we did not find out the gender until the birth so we lovingly named the baby “piña” (aka “pineapple”) while in utero not only because it’s cute and I once loved traveling to tranquil turquoise destinations to eat fresh tropical fruits, but also because I ate a whole heck of a lot of pineapples (yes, including the core) throughout my IVF experience to conceive Hudson. If you’ve been through fertility treatments yourself, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Pineapples have been dubbed a symbol for the trying to conceive (TTC) community and a symbol of friendship and strength for the infertile. Through hardship, pineapples stand tall and have pointy defenses to protect them, yet are bright, positive, and sweet. I love the analogy.

Fast forward to the present and we are now expecting another miracle baby late this summer. In following tradition, we have decided to nickname our little babe “popsicle”. The name couldn’t be more fitting because I’m literally inferno, craving everything and all things iced and cold, and because our little one started out as a Frozen Embryo resulting from Hudson’s round of IVF in 2019. Our little fertility miracle babies will be 23 months apart and we could be more blessed and thrilled that our Frozen Embryo Transfer worked successfully and we are healthily 26 weeks along and anxiously waiting to meet baby number two.

With Father’s Day coming up, I wanted to get a little something for Corey to surprise him for the arrival of our second little. The small Nova Scotia owned business makes beautiful quality custom clothing and projects. I knew a custom designed onesie for baby popsicle would be a special one of a kind Father’s Day gift for Corey. In working with the owner, I was able to send my original ideas and thoughts along to her virtually and she provided me with multiple proofs, fonts, and colour options to select from before the final design went to print. The options are infinite and they worked diligently with each and every client to ensure they get the design of their dreams. I was able to pick up the creation locally by contactless pickup and the process was not only effortless, but fun!

I couldn’t be more in love with how baby popsicle’s onesie turned out and I absolutely couldn’t wait until Father’s Day to gift it to Corey after seeing the design in person. Early gift-giving resulted and Corey loved the gift and thought it suited baby popsicle perfectly. I celebrate Corey each and every day of the year as an amazing and involved father and supportive partner through calm and stormy seas. As difficult and emotional as our journey has been, it’s sentimental things like this that remind us of everything we have been through and how it was all worth it. Although it’s ‘just a onesie’, it represents so much more than that – our entire story. Miracles truly do happen and this is another one to be celebrated. Our little baby survived the ice age and we couldn’t be more happy to grow our family from three to four in just a few short months.
