Freedom lies in being bold. -Robert Frost
I was born a teacher, but my true love is travel! When I am not working, I am living life to the fullest, dreaming a new dream, and traveling! Some of my past travel experiences are volunteer opportunities; a perfect combination of tourism and volunteering—”voluntourism”. Yet my favourite type of travel and most recent travel experiences include adventure travel, backpacking, and authentic explorations. In each destination that I visit I aim to try something new by completing yet another item on my bucket list. During my travels I’ve always been fascinated with documenting my explorations through photography and writing. I now have thousands of journal entries and pictures which represents each of my unique trips. I decided to start a blog to share my experiences with others! Aviation has also become a part of my life because my husband is a pilot–travel runs in our veins. Like me, he is also a teacher in a sense because he taught others to fly for many years. Currently, he is a commercial pilot and when he is not working we love to fly and travel together. Being married to a pilot has its perks. I’ve always been captivated with airplanes since I love flying (and traveling) so much; now I get to learn about it firsthand.
Coming up with a title for my blog was the most difficult part. I wanted the title to represent me, while also summing up what my blog is about. Turquoise Compass encapsulates everything that is significant in my life and connects all of my themes well. Turquoise being my favorite colour reminds me of the ocean, the beach, the earth (the natural turquoise gemstone), and my travels. I usually do not travel too far from the coast. Even if I do I find my way back to the sea. After any inland vacation, I often find my way back to the beach somehow. There is something magical about being close to the sea. It is as if I am “at home”. Sometimes I wish I could live and breathe underwater. The word compass is also relevant because I have often questioned my personal journey and the direction of my life. As a teacher, I challenge my students to reach for higher learning opportunities, while being in control of one’s life compass. As a pilot’s wife, I have learned the significance of a compass in the aviation world and how a pilot uses such a simple (yet complex) tool to guide a plane safely to its destination. A compass can have many meanings. Turquoise Compass goes beyond its literal meaning–it’s more than just a turquoise compass! Although, that would suit me just fine as well. Turquoise Compass is the perfect fit for me!
“Conscience is a man’s compass.”
-Vincent Van Gogh
“Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.”
