Best Things to do in Ohau, Hawaii

Ohau, Hawaii

Check out the article I wrote for Kaleidoskope Magazine: Best Things to do in Ohau, Hawaii about my previous trip to Ohau, Hawaii–my first dream turquoise bucket list destination during my around-the-world-travels. This post brought up so many fond memories of my solo backpacking adventure to 22 incredible countries. Hawaii is just one of them, but it’s amongst my top favourites. I bet you’ll soon see why! Taste Testing in Portland Maine

Portland

PortlandFor spring break this year my fiancé and I took a spontaneous trip to Portland Maine for a getaway. Since Portland Maine is within driving distance from New Brunswick we felt it was the perfect place for a little vacation. As much as we wanted to go somewhere tropical (and far far away) it just wasn’t financially smart with our upcoming wedding this year. We hoped to find a last minute vacation to the Caribbean within our budget, but we didn’t find anything. Although we didn’t make it to the Caribbean we still went south–to south Portland. 5 Incredible Musts when in Oahu, Hawaii

HawaiiOahu, Hawaii

I knew I would find an abundance of turquoise in Hawaii. I’ve always imagined Hawaii to be a place where houses would be painted turquoise. I was right. From the beautiful turquoise coloured beaches, to the island’s décor, turquoise can be spotted. It would appear that Hawaii’s colour of choice is turquoise. I couldn’t capture all that is turquoise on Oahu. There is turquoise around every corner, which left a permanent smile on my face. Continue reading

11 Hour Layover in Los Angeles

Los Angeles Area

Los Angeles AreaIt would appear that Los Angeles is my second home because I am there so often. I think it just might be! It seems that every flight I take I connect through LA. Many of the workshops I attend are also in the LA area. I have been in the LA area more times than I can count in the last 7 months. I’m happy to connect through LA anytime; it is a great place to be. If any place will become my home away from home I am happy to make it LA. Was I meant to be born a California girl? Soaring Through the Sawgrass in the Everglades

The Everglades

The EvergladesThe Everglades National Park is everything you would imagine: miles of saw grass as far as the eyes can see, rivers running in every direction, and alligators swimming alongside airboats full of camera trigger happy visitors. My visit to the Everglades with my cousin was a success! We saw us some gators! Like the others, I too had my cameras (yes two cameras) locked and loaded and ready to “shoot” myself some gators! Not only did we see one gator, but four and a nest full of babies too. Continue reading

Touring Key West in a Day

Turquoise Thursday: Florida’s Key West

Key West

Bus

Key WestTaking a bus from Miami with Miami to Key West Bus was the perfect opportunity to see Key West in a day with my limited time in Florida. The 4 hour ride, 272 kilometres, from Miami was well worth the journey because Key West is one of the most beautiful U.S. turquoise destinations I have ever seen. The 14 hour tour provided transportation from my hotel in Miami Beach to Key West, with same day return. It was convenient not having to rent a car and drive myself; this way I was able to sit back, enjoy the ride, and see the sights along the way. When I was dropped off by the bus in Key West it was a short walk to Mile 0 where the U.S. highway begins (and ends in Maine). I was happy to arrive to America’s Caribbean island and its welcoming subtropical climate. Continue reading

New Air at Miami’s North Beach

Miami North Beach

Getting out of Miami’s South Beach to visit North Beach  for the day was a fresh breath of new air. North Beach has a completely different feel than South Beach. It has an entirely different “air” about it, then the rest of Miami’s hip and bustling beaches. It was well worth the venture to get out of South Beach for a quiet escape North of Miami. Continue reading
