Having conceived our babies through Assisted Reproductive Technologies – IVF, our parenthood journey didn’t come easily or happen overnight. At times we felt alone and disheartened, but our journey also brought strength, resiliency, and connection. While growing our family over the last 4 years, we experienced both challenges and rewards, but the journey has always been our own and we can’t (and wouldn’t) change anything because we were meant to have these exact little boys grace and brighten our world.Continue reading

Check out the article I wrote for Kaleidoskope Magazine: 7 Interesting Facts about Australia based on what I learned during my 3 month adventure throughout Australia during my around-the-world travels. Australia is a place where I lost and found myself. I’m so thankful for my time in Australia and Aussie will forever be near and dear to my heart. Do you know the feeling? Continue reading
Check out the article I wrote for Kaleidoskope Magazine: Best Things to do in Ohau, Hawaii about my previous trip to Ohau, Hawaii–my first dream turquoise bucket list destination during my around-the-world-travels. This post brought up so many fond memories of my solo backpacking adventure to 22 incredible countries. Hawaii is just one of them, but it’s amongst my top favourites. I bet you’ll soon see why! It is hard to believe that I started my blog two years ago. I’ve experienced so much in two years, yet the time has flashed before my eyes. In just two years I have taken over 75 flights to 22 different countries, yet I’m still going strong. I’ve now been to 32 countries and I can’t wait to see more! In celebration of my two year blogging anniversary, I felt it was time to update my blog profile pictures and about page images. As much as I love the original images that were shot in a beautiful field in sunny Sacramento, California, it would be most fitting to have my pictures shot at the one place I love the most–the beach. Not just any beach, but an eastern Canadian beach.
Being from Atlantic Canada, I have a special place in my heart for the east coast. If you’ve been following my blog then you know the beach is my go to place–my safe haven. If you’ve been reading since the beginning then you have seen pictures of me at some of the worlds most beautiful beaches and read how I’ve left pieces of heart scattered on the shorelines around the world. I feel most at home (and myself) when I’m at the beach, as if I was meant to be a sea creature. Since Turquoise Compass celebrates any and all things turquoise (especially amazing coastlines), I thought it would be perfect if my updated photographs captured ‘on camera’ my joy and love for life when at the beach. Turquoise Compass is about living life to the fullest, dreaming a new dream, and traveling to new places. Being by, on, or in the water helps me do all of those things. To the beach I go! It’s probably no surprise to you that I had a turquoise beach themed party for my wedding shower. After spending countless hours on Pinterest searching for wedding shower inspiration, I fell in love with the idea of having a vintage style turquoise high tea. A old-fashioned tea party is feminine, elegant, and so ME! An afternoon high tea is the perfect way to celebrate my upcoming wedding with family and friends. Yet, I still wanted my love for the beach to be incorporated into the party somehow. My mother surprised me with the brilliant idea of blending the two concepts together and designing a one of a kind turquoise beach themed high tea. It is no surprise to me that the best host in the world planned the perfect turquoise inspired wedding shower just for me–one that is more than I could have ever imagined. Continue reading
Of course our friends and family were not surprised when Corey and I decided to have a destination wedding in the Caribbean. The perfect wedding in my mind is one where I can walk down the beach to my husband to be. The sand is where my toes belong. When we first started looking at the variety of destinations in the Caribbean we were overwhelmed. They are so many places to choose from! We finally narrowed it down to a few and started weighing all of our options to see which one seemed the most practical and the best fit for us. After looking at what feels like every venue on each island, we finally agreed on the Dominican Republic for our turquoise inspired beach wedding. Continue reading
Since getting engaged, many of you have been curiously asking WHERE I plan to get married. After getting engaged in late December of 2014, I honestly had no idea where we were going to end up getting married. The options were limitless. We started wedding planning only after we enjoyed being engaged for a few weeks. It was really important for me to just enjoy the excitement of getting engaged for a while before starting the planning phase of our engagement. Unlike other brides, I didn’t have my perfect dream wedding already planned out along with its location. I had nothing planned, and knew nothing. It made it more exciting that way. The only thing I knew for sure was that I wanted a turquoise inspired wedding one way or another. Regardless of where we got married, I wanted turquoise to inspire our planning and be incorporated into the wedding somehow. I’m sure this comes as no shock to you judging by my blog name Turquoise Compass. Continue reading
With the -35C temperatures outside, I can’t help but imagine a more tropical destination. This frozen winter is making me long for Spring to come (surprise, surprise). I am a summer baby all the way. I was lucky enough to skip last winter for Australia, but the winter before wasn’t as cold as this one. I’m struggling. So needless to say, I’m in a little bit of shock.
This is where I want to be: Continue reading
