You Only Wear it Once: Trash that Dress!

Trash the Dress, Dominican RepublicTrash the Dress, Dominican RepublicI bet a few of you have been wondering if I “trashed” my wedding dress in the Dominican Republic after my destination wedding…OF COURSE I DID! I debated back and forth for a while, but I decided to get the most out of the dress of my dreams. My husband knew that if I didn’t do a ‘trash the dress’ session I would regret it…he was right. It is a dress I will only get to wear once so why not wear it for every occasion, even if it means in the pool! I was determined to wear my wedding dress the entire day of my wedding and I did. No second party dress was allowed at my wedding. Continue reading

My Dream Turquoise Inspired Wedding in the Tropics

Turquoise Compass Wedding, Dominican RepublicTurquoise Compass Wedding, Dominican RepublicI am left speechless after my dream turquoise wedding in the Dominican Republic. It was everything I had dreamed of and more. If you have been following my engagement, wedding dress shopping, celebrations, and wedding planning over the 8 months of our engagement–the big day finally came. It arrived in what felt like a blink of an eye, and passed in a heartbeat. It’s hard to believe that I married the man of my dreams on a tropical palm fringed island. Floating down a white sandy isle on a sunny day to a man standing in front of a beautiful twinkling turquoise sea with not a cloud in the sky was beyond what I had imagined. That same man swept me off my feet 5 years ago. I met him under a white gazebo on the beach to be joined together for eternity. It was one of the most spectacular moments of my life. I bet it’s no surprise to you that turquoise was the inspiration of our wedding week in the Caribbean! Continue reading

My Happy Hippy Bridal Makeover with Debby Clements

Debby Clements & Happy Hippy Cosmetics

Debby Clements & Happy Hippy CosmeticsIn preparation for my destination wedding in the Dominican Republic (less than two weeks to go and counting), I decided that I want to do my own makeup on my wedding day. I want to make sure that I look like myself on my special day and not so done up that I don’t look ‘natural’. Rather than all the glitz and glam, I want to be the best version of myself that I can be–a natural glowing bride. To help learn the tricks of the trade, I booked a bridal makeup lesson with Debby Clements, a seasoned professional makeup artist. Step by step, Debby taught me how to recreate the ‘classic bide’ look which would be perfect for my wedding day on the beach. Continue reading

My Totally Trendy Turquoise Bridal Shower

Turquoise CompassTurquoise CompassOn the day of my bridal shower, I was reminded how much I am loved. I have the best friends and family in the world. Everyone came together to create the best totally trendy turquoise bridal shower a girl could ever ask for! The surprises the girls had in store for me blew my expectations out of the salty sea so to speak. It was a bride’s dream come true and a very special day that I will always remember. It’s moments like this when you realize who you can count on. I’ve been so blessed with people who have grown to know me inside and out and to know just what to do without even asking. It’s incredible to know that the friends and family who are celebrating my upcoming wedding with me seem to know me better than I know myself. I’m blessed to have been given such wonderful people who surround and support me during this most joyous occasion. For this, I am forever grateful. Continue reading

Guess the Wedding Dress Contest: Designer Revealed

San Lilies BridalNow that you have read my story about how I found my perfect dream wedding dress (finally!) at San Lilies Bridal & Ladies Wear and how I look like a Disney princess in it, it’s time for me to reveal the wedding dress designer. Instead of just telling you who the dress designer is, I thought it would be fun to make it into a contest! This is actually my fiancés idea (he’s so thoughtful and creative)! Although I won’t be telling you exactly what dress I chose (I wouldn’t want my fiancé finding out) for my turquoise inspired wedding, I thought it would be fun to have my readers try and guess which dress I picked based on what you know about me! The reader who guesses closest to my chosen wedding dress will win $100.00 gift certificate to the exact boutique where I bought my dress: San Lilies Bridal. Thanks to San Lilies for wanting to be a part of the Guess the Dress Contest, I have a wonderful prize to offer the winner. If you are unable to participate in the contest due to your location I hope that you’ll still be involved in the guessing game! Let’s have fun! Remember to keep it *hush, *hush, it’s a secret after all! I know my fiancé is dying to find out what I picked for him. Continue reading

Yup, That’s the One! You Look Like a Disney Princess

San Lilies BridalI’m not surprised that this Nova Scotia born and raised girl found her dream wedding dress in Nova Scotia at San Lilies Bridal & Ladies Wear in Amherst, Nova Scotia. San Lilies boutique is a one of a kind bridal boutique located in an updated Victorian house. So me! Brightly painted, with turquoise highlights, I couldn’t help but fall in love with San Lilies. Dress after dress, I knew that I would find my dress at San Lilies, which has the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen. They’re all so spectacular, feminine, original, and with so many of them being a mix of an antique, vintage, and modern style. Just what I was looking for. When I put my dress on, it was then that I realized I didn’t want to take it off. It was nothing like what I had been trying on or thought I wanted. I tried it on in the first place because I was being open to what Sandy had in the store and was having fun trying on the different dresses. This dress topped all others and made me feel special–beautiful. For the first time, I felt like a bride. There were no tears in this dress like there were in a few others only because I was shocked and speechless. I fell in love with the dress while staring at myself in the turquoise painted mirror with wide eyes Continue reading
