Happy Valentine’s Day from the North

Northeastern Ontario

Happy Valentine’s Day from Northeastern Ontario!

Comment below with your current location this Valentine’s Day and how  you will celebrate the day of love! I’ll be celebrating today in South Porcupine, Ontario for their annual South Porcupine Winter Carnival. This year’s theme is “The Great Outdoors”  and I’ll be enjoying exactly that while watching the evening fire works over Porcupine Lake. It will be my first winter fire works experience. I can’t wait to see the fire works light up the white snow below!

What will you be out exploring this week?  Lakes, forests, or plains?

Sunglasses are the Perfect Winter Accessory for Northern Explorations

SelectSpecs

SelectSpecsWhen I think of sunglasses I first think of hot temperatures, humid weather, palm trees, and relaxing on a turquoise beach with a refreshment in hand! Yet, sunglasses are required wherever I travel. When packing for a trip, my sunglasses are one of the first items I pack. I don’t go anywhere without them–regardless of season or destination. Although I am no longer in a hot tropical climate (oh, how I miss Mexico), I’m needing my sunglasses now more than ever before. Regardless of the temperature nothing will stop me from getting outside and enjoying life. I know, I must sound crazy! I’ll find adventure wherever I am! My new designer-style Savannah Sunglasses {I was sent a free pair of glasses to try out}  are the perfect winter accessory to help me enjoy my explorations in Northeastern Ontario–the outdoor lover’s paradise. Packing my Car, Hitting the Open Road, and Saying Yes to Life: Landing in Northern Ontario

Northern OntarioNorthern OntarioLife is too short not live the way you want. After my wedding, I decided to move to northern Ontario for the time being to be with my husband. Just another adventure! I’ve lived in a handful of places, been to over 30 countries, backpacked my way around the world–why not add another experience to the list? Corey has been based in the north working as a commercial pilot for Thunder Airlines for two years. We figured it was high time we were both in the same city for longer than a few days at a time. For nearly two years, we commuted back and forth from wherever we were to be together. Whether it was me flying back from Australia or another continent during my around-the-world travels or him flying to the east coast when I went back to work, we both added miles to our log book. Distance makes the heart grow fonder which is so true, but we’re so much better together. Our wedding marked a good excuse for us to be based in the same city. After one of my best childhood friends passed away in May it was then when I realized just how short life is and that I should always follow my heart. I’m committed to saying ‘yes’ to life and taking as many leaps of faith as it takes to make my dreams come true. Continue reading

Expanded Roots and Renovated: JustNatural Holistic Spa

JustNatural Holistic Spa

JustNatural Holistic SpaJustNatural Holistic Spa has expanded and has a brand new location in downtown Timmins! The first time I visited Chrislynn at JustNatural Holistic Spa  in the winter of 2014, I sampled the best of what the at-home spa had to offer; I partook in a sensory journey which included: a warm foot soak treatment, leg scrub, a full facial, back massage, and body scrub, mask, and wrap. With Chrislynn’s one-on-one spa care and unique personal touches, my hyperactive and busy-body soul was quickly soothed in the serene and tranquil environment. My second visit to JustNatural Holistic Spa was recently this summer when I had the opportunity to see the spa in its full glory after its recent renovations at its new location. Chrislynn graciously took the time out of her day to give me a tour of the new facility. From the moment I walked into the spa I felt as if I was transported to a modern urban spa in a big city abroad. The vaulted ceilings, natural wood frames, modern décor, and down to earth accents make the spa one of kind in the northern region. It wasn’t long before I found myself in the spa boutique sampling products and making myself right at home. I can’t wait to try out one of their uniquely designed services.

It is hard to believe that I started my blog two years ago. I’ve experienced so much in two years, yet the time has flashed before my eyes. In just two years I have taken over 75 flights to 22 different countries, yet I’m still going strong. I’ve now been to 32 countries and I can’t wait to see more! In celebration of my two year blogging anniversary, I felt it was time to update my blog profile pictures and about page images. As much as I love the original images that were shot in a beautiful field in sunny Sacramento, California, it would be most fitting to have my pictures shot at the one place I love the most–the beach. Not just any beach, but an eastern Canadian beach.

Being from Atlantic Canada, I have a special place in my heart for the east coast. If you’ve been following my blog then you know the beach is my go to place–my safe haven. If you’ve been reading since the beginning then you have seen pictures of me at some of the worlds most beautiful beaches and read how I’ve left pieces of heart scattered on the shorelines around the world. I feel most at home (and myself) when I’m at the beach, as if I was meant to be a sea creature. Since Turquoise Compass celebrates any and all things turquoise (especially amazing coastlines), I thought it would be perfect if my updated photographs captured ‘on camera’ my joy and love for life when at the beach. Turquoise Compass is about living life to the fullest, dreaming a new dream, and traveling to new places. Being by, on, or in the water helps me do all of those things. To the beach I go!
