Uncle Spikes Turquoise Turkey

Guest Post by: Uncle Spike’s Adventures

As a keen follower of Ms Jessica on her adventures of all things Turquoise, I thought it high time to show off a few of our beaches and coastline to add to the many beautiful scenes we are seeing on her blog – so here is my brief tour of Turquoise Turkey…

These are all simple shots I have taken personally over the years, and all of these I have selected are from the western coasts of Turkey; so that means either the Aegean Sea or the Mediterranean Sea. So I think we’ll just head down from north to south…

First up are a couple of shots from the province of Balıkesir, which is near the top left hand corner of the Asian part of Turkey, next to Çanakkale in fact (you may well have heard of that one).

Reuniting on the Great Ocean Road

Great Ocean Road

Traveling to Australia has always been my dream. It started when I was in university. I watched my friends Facebook walls intently as they posted what seemed like hundreds of stunning turquoise images of their travels through Australia. I was instantly hooked. I won’t say that I was jealous per say, as I did my fair share of traveling while in university as well, but to different (much closer) destinations which included experiences like volunteering in the Bahamas, studying in Texas, attending Mardi Gras in Louisiana, and of course exploring New York, New York, among others. Even still, for some reason, there was a void that couldn’t be filled by any destination other than Australia. Finally, at thirty years old, I’ve made that longing a reality. Continue reading

A Day with Surf and Fitness Journey: Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula

Prior to coming to Australia, I connected online with blogger Amy from Surf and Fitness Journey. We have been following each others blogs for some time now. When she heard that I would be coming to Melbourne she offered to meet up with me where she grew up: the turquoise Mornington Peninsula. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day touring the Mornington Peninsula with my new friend and personal tour guide. Her knowledge of the area is beyond compare. Both Amy and I share a passion for the ocean as we both grew up by the sea. It was refreshing to be able to connect with another kindred spirit with a love for the beach. Continue reading

The Turquoise Waters of the Mornington Peninsula

Guest Post by: Surf and Fitness Journey

I’ve grown up with the ocean. My grandfather took me out on his boat and we would spot penguins and seals in the water. As a result of my coastal upbringing (though later-in-life surf journey) I feel happiest with the sea. On Tuesday, I got to meet somebody who feels the exact same way. She’s even dedicated her blog to her worldly coastal travels. Enter Jessica from Turquoise Compass. I had the brilliant opportunity to meet this inspiring traveller and show her around my part of the world.
