LiteGear is currently offering Turquoise Compass readers 25% off all online purchases from their retail site. Do you have any trips planned on your 2015 bucket list? With the launch of new products it’s the perfect time to shop, especially if you are looking for some versatile turquoise (their “mallard green”) travel bags, gear, and accessories for those dream vacations. I fell in love with their handy City Tote from the moment I tried it on my trip to Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba.
I wrote this post originally for Christine to guest publish on her website Project Light to Life, but I couldn’t help but share the piece with my own readers. I hope my story inspires you to create a bucket list of your own, add to your current bucket list, and dream new dreams as it’s never too late. -Jessica
I’ve always been interested in the idea of bucket lists since my early twenties, but it wasn’t until I turned thirty that I actively pursued a life of creating yearly bucket lists and checking them off. I took 14 months off from my job to travel the world in 2013; I have already completed my 2013 bucket list and I’m making headway into my 2014 list. A friend of mine, Bucket List Publications, inspired me through her yearly bucket lists to start making my own. I’ve always been in the process of completing things I’ve been passionate about, but never really put pen to paper until I transitioned my life from a full-time teacher and Master’s student to a full-time traveler. The hardest part of full-time travel is leaving behind family, loved ones, and friends. When I travel, I don’t get to see new places and experience new things with my loved ones–I’m on my own. Traveling more and more and trying new things doesn’t erase the void in my heart–the absence of my family, boyfriend, and friends. Each time I leave home I embark on a new journey, destined to explore more of the world and learn more about myself, but a part of me doesn’t want to leave knowing that I am leaving the people I love behind. As I move forward exploring the world, they stay behind waiting for my return. As much as I love traveling full-time, the worst part is saying goodbye. Continue reading
As you may have guessed, or probably already know by now… I love the ocean. Being on, or in the sea is the best place to be (no rhyme intended- that’s the English teacher in me coming out). Whenever I get the chance, I’ll find a way to be on a beach doing what I do best: walking on the beach, wadding in its sultry water, laying in the sand under the warm sun, or being active on it/in it. What goes hand in hand with being a beach bum? My passion for water sports! While in Cuba, I had the chance to sail the spectacular turquoise water on a catamaran and paddle my way through the stunning turquoise blue Caribbean sea. Continue reading
Hotel Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba is considered one of the top rated five star hotels in Cayo Santa Maria. After a week long getaway at Hotel Cayo Santa Maria I can see why its considered a luxurious destination for vacationers. As a backpacker and down to earth traveler it’s not often that I get the opportunity to stay a resort. Typically I much prefer to travel my way through a country from city to city and hostel to hostel. However, there are times when I crave a holiday just like anyone else. After 5 months of traveling my way through Canada, U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, I knew it was time for a beach getaway to relax, recoup, rejuvenate, and get ready for my next long haul backpacking adventure through Europe! If these 10 things don’t persuade you to love Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba then I don’t think anything will…
