It’s probably no surprise to you that I had a turquoise beach themed party for my wedding shower. After spending countless hours on Pinterest searching for wedding shower inspiration, I fell in love with the idea of having a vintage style turquoise high tea. A old-fashioned tea party is feminine, elegant, and so ME! An afternoon high tea is the perfect way to celebrate my upcoming wedding with family and friends. Yet, I still wanted my love for the beach to be incorporated into the party somehow. My mother surprised me with the brilliant idea of blending the two concepts together and designing a one of a kind turquoise beach themed high tea. It is no surprise to me that the best host in the world planned the perfect turquoise inspired wedding shower just for me–one that is more than I could have ever imagined. Continue reading
My fiancé and I were blessed to have Alyssa Martin Photography do our engagement photos this past April. After being engaged for a mere few months, we decided that we wanted to do a mini engagement photo session to get a few images prior to our upcoming wedding which would be 4 months later. With so many excellent photographers in my area, I knew it would be difficult to pick one (let alone the right one for us). After viewing Alyssa Martin’s website and finding out how much she loves doing engagement sessions, I knew that she would be right for the job. When I met Alyssa for the first time it was as if I had been reunited with a long lost childhood friend. We hugged upon meeting and chatted over tea as if we had been friends for a lifetime. We also came to realize that we had so much in common and mutual friends. What a small world! She’d be perfect! Her excitement to shoot our love story made me confident that we had picked the perfect photographer for us. We really only wanted and needed a few good ones. Initially, our hopes were to get a handful of good edited photos that we could frame in our home. Alyssa Martin gave us far more than we bargained for… Continue reading

Check out what I made for my fiancé!
Where he’s from…
Of course our friends and family were not surprised when Corey and I decided to have a destination wedding in the Caribbean. The perfect wedding in my mind is one where I can walk down the beach to my husband to be. The sand is where my toes belong. When we first started looking at the variety of destinations in the Caribbean we were overwhelmed. They are so many places to choose from! We finally narrowed it down to a few and started weighing all of our options to see which one seemed the most practical and the best fit for us. After looking at what feels like every venue on each island, we finally agreed on the Dominican Republic for our turquoise inspired beach wedding. Continue reading
I’m not surprised that this Nova Scotia born and raised girl found her dream wedding dress in Nova Scotia at San Lilies Bridal & Ladies Wear in Amherst, Nova Scotia. San Lilies boutique is a one of a kind bridal boutique located in an updated Victorian house. So me! Brightly painted, with turquoise highlights, I couldn’t help but fall in love with San Lilies. Dress after dress, I knew that I would find my dress at San Lilies, which has the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen. They’re all so spectacular, feminine, original, and with so many of them being a mix of an antique, vintage, and modern style. Just what I was looking for. When I put my dress on, it was then that I realized I didn’t want to take it off. It was nothing like what I had been trying on or thought I wanted. I tried it on in the first place because I was being open to what Sandy had in the store and was having fun trying on the different dresses. This dress topped all others and made me feel special–beautiful. For the first time, I felt like a bride. There were no tears in this dress like there were in a few others only because I was shocked and speechless. I fell in love with the dress while staring at myself in the turquoise painted mirror with wide eyes Continue reading
My engagement was a complete surprise. My boyfriend made it his mission to surprise me, and he did. He wanted more than anything to be able to surprise me when he proposed. Prior to getting engaged, my boyfriend took me ring shopping on a few different occasions to get some ideas from me. Prior to looking at engagement rings with him, I had no idea what I would want. I hadn’t really thought about it. There wasn’t a need to at the time. I wanted to save the excitement of looking when I was actually going to get engaged. When we first started looking at rings together I was trying to figure out what I did not like, while giving him ideas of things I thought were pretty. They’re all pretty! They’re diamonds! I really wanted for him to pick out the ring he wanted me to have. Honestly, I would have been happy with anything which I had told him countless times (even though he didn’t believe me). He thought every woman would want a big diamond, but that wasn’t the case for me. I remember him telling me one night that he wanted me to have the best, a ring that would sparkle under the moonlight. Was he being romantic or crazy? I would be happy having any ring that he wanted me to have and that would be more special than anything else. Nonetheless, Corey was on a mission to pick out the perfect ring for me. Continue reading
It might appear to you that I am constantly searching for all things turquoise to write about on my blog Turquoise Compass, but it’s actually not the case. It’s really quite the opposite. I love writing about the turquoise destinations I have visited, turquoise inspired secret spots, and unique turquoise treasures, but turquoise seems to find me. Not the other way around as you might think. I usually stumble upon turquoise wherever I go. It just appears to me. I often have no intention of searching for that something turquoise, but it’s just there. It’s waiting for me to see it. Whether it is a turquoise painted house, tea cup, or simply a sign–I always seem to find it. It’s as if my eyes have been opened to the world of all things turquoise since starting my blog in 2013. It was no different when I went wedding dress shopping with my mom. We found TURQUOISE! Continue reading
