My Most Treasured Turquoise Trip

To conclude the Mexican Diaries series, I’ve enjoyed sharing one of my most treasured turquoise trips. This trip has shaped me into the person and traveler that I am today. It’s brought back so many pleasant memories which has me yet again, planning another adventure in Mexico (which would be the 4th time there). From landing in Mexico as a female backpacker for the first time, being scared crapless, traveling solo in Quintana Roo, crazy adventures in the Yucatan, the exhilaration of the backpacking life in Campeche, the journey to and from Belize, stumbling upon my favorite destination in Mexico, to ending my trip in one of the most beautiful islands in the world…Mexico is “that trip” for me. Mexico has it all.

Making it to Tulum at the end of my backpacking adventure through Mexico and Belize in 2008 was a dream come true. Mexico Continue reading

I traveled from Chetumal, Mexico which is located near the border of Belize, all the way down to Caye Caulker via Corozal, Saryenja, and San Pedro/Ambergris Caye. It was quite the journey getting to Belize (and returning back to Mexico). A journey I will remember for the rest of my life.Belize Continue reading

Landing in Mexico as a Solo Female Backpacker

Mexico, 2008

MexicoLanding in Mexico for the first time as a solo female backpacker went surprising smooth, with the odd transition here and there. Prior to departing Canada, I spent so much time telling everyone how fine it would be with me traveling alone, yet it wasn’t until the airplane was making its descent for Mexico that I realized how scared crapless I was. My heart was racing, my hands were clammy, and I started thinking of the worst things that could or would happen to me. It was in that moment when I realized: this is real. Continue reading
