I bet a few of you have been wondering if I “trashed” my wedding dress in the Dominican Republic after my destination wedding…OF COURSE I DID! I debated back and forth for a while, but I decided to get the most out of the dress of my dreams. My husband knew that if I didn’t do a ‘trash the dress’ session I would regret it…he was right. It is a dress I will only get to wear once so why not wear it for every occasion, even if it means in the pool! I was determined to wear my wedding dress the entire day of my wedding and I did. No second party dress was allowed at my wedding. Continue reading
When my husband and I first got engaged in December 2014, it took us nearly 3 months to decide what country we wanted to get married in and at which venue. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to do a destination wedding, but we didn’t anticipate that we’d end up selecting Dominican Republic as our country of choice or the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana for our hotel. At first, neither were on our short list. We had a few ideas of what we wanted when we started our planning, but to get exactly what we wanted for our date, budget, and must haves we had to make some compromises. As you can imagine, there are many factors that go into selecting a country and venue for an away wedding. In the end, the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana offered us the most for our money, while providing us one of the most elegant beach wedding venues.
I am left speechless after my dream turquoise wedding in the Dominican Republic. It was everything I had dreamed of and more. If you have been following my engagement, wedding dress shopping, celebrations, and wedding planning over the 8 months of our engagement–the big day finally came. It arrived in what felt like a blink of an eye, and passed in a heartbeat. It’s hard to believe that I married the man of my dreams on a tropical palm fringed island. Floating down a white sandy isle on a sunny day to a man standing in front of a beautiful twinkling turquoise sea with not a cloud in the sky was beyond what I had imagined. That same man swept me off my feet 5 years ago. I met him under a white gazebo on the beach to be joined together for eternity. It was one of the most spectacular moments of my life. I bet it’s no surprise to you that turquoise was the inspiration of our wedding week in the Caribbean! Continue reading

In preparation for my destination wedding in the Dominican Republic (less than two weeks to go and counting), I decided that I want to do my own makeup on my wedding day. I want to make sure that I look like myself on my special day and not so done up that I don’t look ‘natural’. Rather than all the glitz and glam, I want to be the best version of myself that I can be–a natural glowing bride. To help learn the tricks of the trade, I booked a bridal makeup lesson with Debby Clements, a seasoned professional makeup artist. Step by step, Debby taught me how to recreate the ‘classic bide’ look which would be perfect for my wedding day on the beach. Continue reading
On the day of my bridal shower, I was reminded how much I am loved. I have the best friends and family in the world. Everyone came together to create the best totally trendy turquoise bridal shower a girl could ever ask for! The surprises the girls had in store for me blew my expectations out of the salty sea so to speak. It was a bride’s dream come true and a very special day that I will always remember. It’s moments like this when you realize who you can count on. I’ve been so blessed with people who have grown to know me inside and out and to know just what to do without even asking. It’s incredible to know that the friends and family who are celebrating my upcoming wedding with me seem to know me better than I know myself. I’m blessed to have been given such wonderful people who surround and support me during this most joyous occasion. For this, I am forever grateful. Continue reading
It’s probably no surprise to you that I had a turquoise beach themed party for my wedding shower. After spending countless hours on Pinterest searching for wedding shower inspiration, I fell in love with the idea of having a vintage style turquoise high tea. A old-fashioned tea party is feminine, elegant, and so ME! An afternoon high tea is the perfect way to celebrate my upcoming wedding with family and friends. Yet, I still wanted my love for the beach to be incorporated into the party somehow. My mother surprised me with the brilliant idea of blending the two concepts together and designing a one of a kind turquoise beach themed high tea. It is no surprise to me that the best host in the world planned the perfect turquoise inspired wedding shower just for me–one that is more than I could have ever imagined. Continue reading
I want to thank everyone who participated in the Guess the Wedding Dress Contest in partnership with San Lilies Bridal where I bought my wedding dress. Thanks to San Lilies, I’ve finally found my perfect wedding dress–one that makes me feel like a Disney princess! According to my youngest brother, it makes me look like one too. It was so much fun for me to see what people thought I picked based on what they know about me. Although no one who entered the contest guessed the dress number that Serenity Bridal indicated as closest to my wedding dresses, there were a few guesses that came pretty closer. Due to the fact that the wedding dress I chose is a limited edition dress (are you surprised?) there are no photos of my specific dress online. However, there is a dress online that is almost identical to mine. There was one person who guessed closest to that dress.
Of course our friends and family were not surprised when Corey and I decided to have a destination wedding in the Caribbean. The perfect wedding in my mind is one where I can walk down the beach to my husband to be. The sand is where my toes belong. When we first started looking at the variety of destinations in the Caribbean we were overwhelmed. They are so many places to choose from! We finally narrowed it down to a few and started weighing all of our options to see which one seemed the most practical and the best fit for us. After looking at what feels like every venue on each island, we finally agreed on the Dominican Republic for our turquoise inspired beach wedding. Continue reading
