The Sacramento Zoo from the Eyes of a Child

The Sacramento Zoo

Sacramento ZooI accompanied my friend and her children to the Sacramento Zoo on a quiet afternoon. Watching the kids wander through the zoo in amazement was such a unique and inspiring opportunity. With animals from all over the world including Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Americas the children were learning about species they didn’t even know existed. Experiencing the zoo from a child’s view was refreshing and entertaining. The zoo’s mission statement: “the Sacramento Zoo inspires appreciation, respect and a connection with wildlife and nature through education, recreation and conservation” matched perfectly with our time at the zoo. Keeping up with the children while zigzagging through the zoo from exhibit to exhibit, kept me on the run for hours.  Continue reading

Lazy 5 Ranch

Lazy 5 Ranch

My absolute favorite destination in North Carolina is the privately owned and family run Lazy 5 Ranch located outside of Charlotte in Moorseville, NC. Lazy 5 Ranch is not just for kids; I think I enjoyed it as much as the children around me, if not more. I was extremely excited to take the 3.5 mile guided safari wagon tour throughout the interactive zoo seeing more than 750 animals from all over the world. Animals from over 6 continents roam free throughout the park in their re-created “natural” habitats. During the horse drawn wagon ride, I had multiple opportunities to take pictures of the many animals, feed the animals, and pet the animals during the stops along the way.

Photo of the Week- Lazy 5 Ranch

When I was in North Carolina in July I had the opportunity to visit Lazy 5 Ranch, an interactive zoo safari. This privately owned zoo located in Mooresville has over 750 animals from 6 different continents. The 3-1/2 mile safari ‘ride’ was one of the best interactive zoo experiences I have ever had! I was able to get up close and personal with many of the animals including Giraffe, Texas Longhorn Cattle, Aoudad, Ostrich, Emu, Blue & Gold Macaw, and many more. Not only was I able to take amazing photos of the animals, I was able to feed and pet the animals on numerous occasions throughout the informative wagon ride in the park. North Carolina offers many tourist attractions, but Lazy 5 Ranch is my favorite one. I can’t wait to return!

My First Segway Tour

Yesterday I had the opportunity to take my first Segway tour at the Magnetic Hill Zoo inSegways Moncton, New Brunswick. What an amazing experience to tour the zoo on a Segway! If you have never had the change to take a Segway tour, it is a must do activity. An activity that should be added to your bucket list!

Touring the zoo‘s 40 acres on my own “personal transport” (PT) gave me the ability to get up close and personal with the animals, while also traveling throughout the zoo on wheels. I had the chance to get off and on the Segway at any time to get a closer look (and to pet the animals in the petting zoo), or to stay on the Segway to view the animals from a distance. Magnetic Hill Zoo houses over 500 animals, many of which are indigenous and exotic species. The zoo also praises itself in safeguarding the animal species while raising public awareness of endangered animals. The zoo was the perfect place to take my first Segway tour.
